Ásgeir Trausti is a singer from Iceland, better known simply as Ásgeir. He debuted in 2012 with an album sung entirely in Icelandic “Dýrð í dauðaþögn”, which was subsequently translated and re-recorded in English as “In The Silence”. The Deluxe Limited Edition (pictured above) packages both the Iceland and English CDs so you may listen to whichever tickles your fancy.
It is said that “Dýrð í dauðaþögn” was so well received that it is now the best selling album ever in Iceland, with suggestions that one in every ten Icelander owns it (note: the Iceland total population is approximately 330,000 in 2015).
This is a collection of easy listening, catchily written and well produced set of songs. I listen to “Dýrð í dauðaþögn”, rather than “In The Silence”. The language and imagery conjured harkens me back to the memories of the Icelandic landscape. Sumargestur could be passed as a Nordic folk tune. Listen to Leyndarmál and Hærra too.
Ásgeir is highly recommended.
